We at the Global Education Office are pleased you are interested in studying away on one of our Duke-In programs! In order to serve you better, we have summarized important steps and procedures that pertain specifically to you as a “non-Duke student”—that is, someone who is matriculated at an accredited college or university other than Duke.
Programs Open to Non-Duke Students
Many of our Duke-In summer and semester programs are open to non-Duke students. Once you find a Duke-In program of interest, look in the ‘Program Fast Facts’ for information about whether non-Duke students are welcome to apply to that program.
In general, you must be in good standing at an accredited college or university, provide a transcript of all coursework taken, and be accepted into the program by the applicable Duke program director.
Logging in to MyGlobalEd
When accessing the MyGlobalEd application system, choose ‘Non-Duke Login.’ The system will prompt you to create an account. You will continue to use the ‘Non-Duke Login’ and your original username and password to access your application and post-acceptance materials, even if you later receive a Duke NetID.
Tuition & Fees
Program costs are based on standard Duke tuition for the number of credits issued by the program, plus a program fee specific to each program. Check the “Costs” section of your program’s page on this site for details.
You will also be billed a $40 one-time transcript fee to cover the cost of all future requests for Duke transcripts.
Financial Aid & Scholarships
Non-Duke students are not eligible to receive financial aid at Duke. Contact your home institution for financial aid information.
As a non-Duke student on a Duke study away program, you have access to the following services during the term you are enrolled:
Your Duke NetID & Email Account
Duke’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) will issue you a NetID and password upon enrollment in your study away program. NetID activation instructions will be sent via email; please keep the information in a secure place so it can be retrieved and used later as needed.
You will be required to use the Duke-issued NetID and password for various functions including:
- Your Duke email account
- DukeHub portal where you’ll manage your Duke bursar account and bill
Registration on Duke’s International Travel Registry
- Orientation materials for certain programs
Duke Libraries resources
- Duke Sakai websites
Online program and course evaluations
- Transcript requests
Your Duke email is the primary way Duke will contact you. It's up to you to monitor your Duke email account regularly. If you choose, you can designate a different primary email address; you must set this up in the DukeHub system.

Please note that Duke does not issue paper bills. All billing notification is sent by email to your Duke email address. Use your Duke NetID and password issued upon enrollment to access your online accounts at the DukeHub student portal.
Bills will be issued by the Duke University Bursar per the following timetable, repeating on a monthly basis until paid in full:
- Fall semester: late June, due 1st business day in August
- Spring semester: late November, due 4th business day in January
- Summer 1: mid-April, due May 12
- Summer 2: mid-May, due June 12
Late penalties will apply to outstanding amounts past the initial due date.
Third-Party Billing Form
Upon acceptance to a program, you'll need to ensure your home university provides Duke with a "Third-Party Billing Form" on your behalf. This form lets Duke know how to prepare the bill for your program, and clarifies whether your home university will be paying all, some, or none of the program charges on your behalf.
The Third-Party Billing Form is required of all non-Duke students, regardless of how payment for your program will be handled. It is your responsibility to initiate the process by sending a blank form to your home university's study abroad office.

Requesting your Transcript
Transcripts will not be sent automatically by any of the Duke-In programs. It is your responsibility to request transcripts from the Duke University Registrar.
