Douglas Huey attended Ohio University and earned his B.A. in psychology. His interest in international education began after graduating, as he wanted to expand his global knowledge and decided to teach abroad. His first adventure brought him to the English Center for Children in Seoul, South Korea for a two year duration, where he taught English. This was the start of his love of exploring different cultures.  Douglas then moved to Guangzhou, China where he taught at Guangdong Peizheng College. For one year, he enjoyed learning all about the Chinese lifestyle from exchanges with his university students. After travelling throughout southeast Asia, he headed towards Europe. For three years, Douglas lived in Turkey to teach with teams of international and Turkish colleagues at Aci School in Istanbul, one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

After visiting more than 30 countries, Douglas moved back to the U.S. and relocated to North Carolina. He worked with the Carolina Navigators at the University of North Carolina to promote outreach and cultural awareness to K-12 students throughout the state. Douglas is now assisting Duke students gain international experience at the Global Education Office.

He joined the Global Education Office for Undergraduates in 2016.
