Although it's summer time, I did not go to Russia expecting to end up on a sunny beach. Saint Petersburg is full of magnificent palaces, churches, museums, and much more, but among the highlights of my trip was certainly sitting on a rock at the Gulf of Finland with the class, aggressively enunciating double consonants and vowels the way Russian actors and actresses would have trained themselves, and dreaming about our own dacha to invite our professors to.
Duke in Russia is an amazing program that takes you to – and lets you discover – unexpected and wonderful places in a historic and vibrant city. I particularly appreciate the opportunity to continually practice Russian in a wide range of contexts with everybody around me, during both forays into the city and residence in the university dorm.
Going back to Duke, I expect to continue studying Russian language and culture and pursue post-graduation studies in related areas. For anyone considering studying abroad, a summer program like Duke in Russia will definitely leave you with unforgettable experiences.
