Student Services Coordinator / GEO Advisor
Carolyn Covalt has been passionate about international travel, cultural differences, and foreign languages for about as long as she can remember.
After graduating high school Carolyn lived in Quito, Ecuador for one year as an AFS exchange student. As an undergraduate she chose to expand her horizons further by studying in Japan and majoring in Japanese Studies. Post-graduation she lived and taught in rural, northern Japan for two years. Living abroad changed Carolyn deeply, and she hopes that every student will be as transformed and stimulated by the opportunity to experience another culture as she was.
Around Durham Carolyn can be found greeting patrons at Manbites Dog Theater, hanging out at Geer Street Garden, attending small folk music shows and enjoying the creative community that thrives here.
Carolyn has a B.A. in Japanese Studies from Earlham College, an M.A. in Performance Studies from UNC-CH and an M.F.A. in Asian Performance from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa.
Carolyn joined the Global Education Office for Undergraduates in 2014.
