Deadlines Vary for Duke-Approved Programs
If you are applying to any of the 150+ study away programs on the Duke-Approved program list, it's up to you find out what the deadline is by consulting the website for each program/university.
The academic calendar at every university is different, and as a result, the study away application deadlines for Duke-Approved programs vary quite considerably from one to the next.
But, wait...I thought the deadline was March 1?
When applying to a Duke-Approved program, you technically need to submit two "applications":
1) First, you submit an application to the program itself. This is the application that determines whether you get accepted, and you will submit this through the website or application portal for each program/university. The deadline for this application is set by the program/university, and acceptance notifications will come from them—not Duke. The deadline might be March 1, it might not!
2) Second, you submit a brief application in the Duke Global Education Office application portal, MyGlobalEd, for the purpose of keeping your Duke financial and academic records in order while you're away. Submitting this application initiates a dean's check and conduct check—both of which you will need to have cleared in order to move forward with any Duke-Approved study away program.
There is no fixed deadline for the second application, you just need to submit it around the same time you do the program application (#1 above), so you have enough time to get the results from your dean's check and conduct check before you commit to doing the program.

Many students applying to Duke-Approved study away programs hear other people talking about the "March 1 study abroad deadline" and they begin to worry (unnecessarily). Before you panic, double check the website for the program/university you are interested in applying to and get the facts.
