STUDY AWAY AGREEMENT

Stay active in Duke's systems while you're on study away

Why do I need to be put on Study Away Agreement?

Study Away Agreement is how you hold your place and standing at Duke while you study away for a semester or longer. This special status controls transactions on your accounts with the Duke Bursar’s Office, Financial Aid, and University Registrar. You’ll want to get on Study Away Agreement as soon as possible to avoid erroneous debits or blocks on your accounts.

To be eligible to go on Study Away Agreement:

  • You must clear/settle any Bursar blocks on your accounts.
  • You cannot be an any kind of academic or disciplinary probation.

While you are on Study Away Agreement, you must:

  • Take a full course load.
  • Meet continuation requirements.

EXTEND YOUR STUDY AWAY AGREEMENT

If you decide to extend your study away for a subsequent term – either on the same program or on another program – you’ll need to communicate your intent to all involved parties.

TERMINATE YOUR STUDY AWAY AGREEMENT

To terminate your participation in your study away program for any reason after being placed on Study Away Agreement, you must:

  1. Notify GEO by signing and submitting a Withdrawal Form.

If you leave your program without providing GEO with this official withdrawal notification, you may be withdrawn from Duke and will need to apply for readmission in accordance with official Duke University guidelines.
