Climate change impacts countries all over the world. There are many ways in which you can plan for, respond to, and help to reduce climate change while studying away.
Planning for Weather Extremes
Extreme heat is more deadly than hurricanes, floods and tornados combined, most years. Flooding is more and more frequent. Your first step is always to check with your program to see what emergency procedures they have in place to notify you, assist in evacuation (if needed), and keep you safe during extreme weather events.

Packing
Consider the climate and time of year, as well as the likelihood of extreme weather when packing. Quick-drying fabrics, solar chargers for phones and a water bottle are musts. A few guides can be found below:

What to Do in Extreme Heat and Flooding
Always make sure that you are reachable and can reach your program’s staff. Follow their directions and guidance, but additional tips are provided here. Additional resources in an emergency would include local first responders (be sure you know how to reach them), ISOS, and OGHS at Duke.
