Duke in Australia

  • Students being studious
Allison in the field during Duke in Australia.

Duke in Australia was one of the best experiences of my Duke career. The land down under flourished with gorgeous wildlife and there was never a time I was not mesmerized by the world around me. Having the opportunity to learn about the biodiversity, geology, earth and ocean sciences, and culture from incredible tour guides and two of the most passionate professors made the experience extremely enriching.

We snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef, as well as freshwater habitats. We went on a crocodile tour, fed wallabies, pet kangaroos and koalas, swam in waterfalls, went on dolphin tours, hiked the Blue Mountains, explored wildlife facilities, met and learned about Aboriginal people and their culture, explored museums, saw a show in the Opera House, hiked the Charles Darwin Walk, explored Billabongs, ate new foods, among so many other things!

On top of all of that, the friendships that were quickly formed were some of the best friendships I have to this day. Being surrounded by such an amazing group of people made the trip that much better. I left the United States ready for a great Australian adventure and I came back with memories that will last a lifetime, and for that, I will be forever grateful.

G’day mate!
